Tell a Friend

   Objectives

Located at Begumpet, Hyderabad, KRUSHI is a home for children, who are housed, educated and integrated with the main stream of the society (At Krushi, usage of the term "Street Children" is consciously avoided). Every effort is made to counsel and restore the children to their parents/relatives. Those children who cannot be restored to their parents / relatives, for various reasons, are retained in Krushi Home and educated, with the ultimate objective of making them self sufficient and responsible citizens. The effort has been fairly successful with almost all the boys in schools / colleges or undergoing vocational training etc.

*   Some Street children, specially the older ones, find the regulated life in a home like Krushi      hard to handle. In spite of adequate counseling and motivation, quite a few of them go back       to their old ways.

*    Even some of the long staying children do sometimes disappear for short periods only to  come back and lead normal lives.

*    Follow up visits are conducted on children who have been rehabilitated to their homes, to  keep a track of their welfare.

*   Krushi II was started, in the year 1999, close to the Secunderabad Railway Station, the      main arrival point of runaway / stray children to the City, with the intention of segregating      the new arrivals and the old residents. Although the concept was successful, due to logistic      reasons, the Home was closed.

*   As the present home at Begumpet cannot house more than 20 children, the older children     are accommodated in a Government Hostel, with staff from Krushi monitoring their day to     day activities. However, the children come back to Krushi Home during Holidays.

*   So far more than 900 children have passed through Krushi Home. More than 400 children      have been rehabilitated to their families. More than 100 children are gainfully employed      after completing their vocational or professional courses.

*    A new home is under construction close to Secunderabad, with a capacity to house 100       children on a regular basis and another 25 children in transit.
